Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood living in New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her professional career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976, Mitchell was hired by WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). Then she joined NBC News Washington two years following that as an general reporter. She began covering the White House in 1981 and was promoted to chief congressional correspondent by 1988. In 1992, she was appointed the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 was appointed chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist on the TV show Meet the Press and also hosted the program. Mitchell participated on a panel during the debates in 1988 between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded numerous times for her journalism achievements, such as an award called the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. Mitchell was also awarded by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell started covering the White House in 1981-1988, both during Ronald Reagan's presidency. Mitchell was a reporter on a range of important stories including the Iran-Contra scandal, budget tax reforms and arms control. Mitchell traveled with President Ronald Reagan on numerous occasions to summits and debate issues such as the Iran Contra scandal.
